Laser Head and Optics Maintenance

Two days inside Raytools, Bochu, WSX and Precitec heads: nozzles, ceramic bodies, protective windows, collimating and focus lenses, sensors, and full focus recalibration.

What You Will Be Able to Do

• Strip and rebuild a cutting head in the correct order without contaminating it
• Identify a damaged lens, window or ceramic body before it damages the head
• Centre the nozzle and calibrate the focus so the cut is square all round
• Test the capacitive height sensor and correct a wandering stand-off
• Decide correctly whether a part is cleanable or must be replaced

Course Outline

• Day 1 Inside the head6 hours
  • Head architecture: collimator, focus assembly, drawer windows, nozzle and ceramic body
  • Clean-room discipline on a workshop bench: gloves, tools, lighting and airflow
  • Stripping a Raytools and a Bochu head step by step, with photos at each stage
  • Judging optics: burn marks, pitting, coating damage, fingerprints and dust
  • Cleaning method that does not scratch, and the mistakes that do
• Day 2 Calibration and fault hunting6 hours
  • Nozzle selection, single and double nozzles, and the effect of a worn orifice
  • Nozzle centring by burn print, and by the head's own procedure
  • Focus calibration: finding zero, setting the offset, verifying on a step test
  • Capacitive height sensing: calibration, cable faults, ceramic cracks and arcing
  • Fault clinic: ten damaged heads, find the root cause and write the repair

Machines and Tools You Will Train On

Raytools BT240S and BM111, Bochu BLT series, WSX NC30 and Precitec ProCutter heads, clean bench, lens tissue and solvents, focus calibration blocks, nozzle centring tools.

Prerequisites

Preventive Maintenance for Fiber Laser Machines, or equivalent experience.
